I'm glad you're here.

My name is Andrew Berry, and I run Watchstander Tech here in Bay County. Before this, I spent nearly two decades in IT and cybersecurity — including as an Information Systems Technician in the Navy Reserve — and throughout that time, I kept noticing the same thing: the people who most need someone to watch their back online are usually the ones who have no one.

Big companies have entire teams keeping watch over their networks around the clock. Meanwhile, a retiree gets a phone call that drains their savings, a family's smart cameras get hijacked, or a small business owner finds out too late that their customer data was wide open. Not because these folks did anything foolish — but because nobody ever explained this stuff to them in plain language.

That's what The Log Book is for.

**Here's what you can expect from me.** Every week or so, I'll post something practical: a scam that's actually going around, a simple habit that makes you meaningfully safer, or a plain-English answer to a question I hear a lot. No jargon. No fear-mongering. No, trying to sell you something in every paragraph. Just the kind of straight, useful guidance I'd give a neighbor over the fence.

I call it The Log Book because that's what a watchstander keeps — a running record of what's happening on watch, so nothing important slips by unnoticed. Think of these posts the same way: notes from the watch, written down so they're useful to you.

**A few things worth knowing up front:**

- You don't need to be "good with computers" to get something out of these. If you can read this email, you're the audience I'm writing for.
- If a post ever uses a word you don't know, I've probably explained it in the [glossary](https://watchstander.tech/company/glossary.html) — a plain-language dictionary of security terms I keep on the main site.
- This inbox reaches me directly. If there's a topic you'd like me to cover, or a suspicious message you're not sure about, just reply. I read every one.
